UM Legislative Update

National Life Sciences Infrastructure

 

In January 2003, the Missouri Life Science Report, commissioned by the State of Missouri, the University of Missouri, the Danforth Foundation and the Ewing Marion Kaufman Foundation, was issued. The report, prepared with the help of The Battelle Memorial Institute’s Technology Partnership Practice, detailed a life sciences strategy for the state of Missouri.

The report indicated that “at the present time the most critical ingredients to strengthening the research enterprise are adequate facilities and the ability to recruit and retain outstanding research talent.” The report went on to say that, “Currently, academic health and higher education institutions are finding that those places that have sufficient and modern research facilities are the ones that can attract bioscience talent, and that talent, in turn, attracts the federal and industry research dollars.” Click here to see a table from the report of states and their recent bioscience and technology investments.
