Education lawmakers hear from Midwest Higher Education Compact president

Isaak provided the legislators with a report card on how Missouri utilizes MHEC services and commented that we receive a greater return on our annual $82,500 investment than most other states in the organization. The group has focused on the following items:

The group does provide tuition reduction for students in Missouri who participate in the Midwest Student Exchange Program that allows for study in other member states. The program also provides assistance to students from other states who study here. Since 1990, Missourians have received more than $7 million in tuition savings through the program, including $1.8 million in 2003-2004.

“When I became president of this organization a year ago, one of the first things I realized we needed to do is to better communicate what we do and how states are benefiting from our services,” Isaak said. Lawmakers asked a number of questions following his presentation.
