UM Capital improvement request

While the state is obligated to provide support for infrastructure needs of public colleges and universities, the General Assembly has not approved a capital budget for higher education in several years. The University of Missouri requests legislative support for four capital projects at each of its campuses in Fiscal Year 2007.

Benton-Stadler Chemical/Biological Sciences

Benton-Stadler Chemical/Biological Sciences (UMSL): $52.54 million. This project includes the renovation and upgrading of key teaching and research facilities that serve the departments of biology and chemistry. The project has previously received $3.5 million in state funds.

Chemical and Biological Engineering & Sciences

Chemical and Biological Engineering & Sciences (UMR): $55.65 million.
This project involves renovation and expansion of Schrenk Hall West with teaching and research space to serve the departments of chemistry, chemical engineering and biological sciences.

Health Sciences Research Center

Health Sciences Research Center (MU): $87.53 million. This project involves construction of a new health sciences research center linked to the existing School of Medicine and University Hospital. The center would provide state-of-the-art facilities vital to the School of Medicine’s research programs in cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, immunology and infectious diseases, and neurosciences.

Miller Nichols Library and Academic Commons

Miller Nichols Library and Academic Commons (UMKC): $65.56 million. This project involves construction of a new commons as well as renovation of part of the library to increase holding capacity and to provide space for collaborative learning, library instruction and computers.
