MU alumni gather to hear from Columbia area lawmakers

The Boone County Chapter of the MU Alumni Association hosted its annual legislative forum Thursday, Jan. 19 to gather thoughts and input from lawmakers about higher education and the University of Missouri. Participants included Sen. Chuck Graham (D-Columbia); Rep. Judy Baker (D-Columbia); Rep. Jeff Harris (D-Columbia); Rep. Steve Hobbs (R-Mexico); and Rep. Ed Robb (R-Columbia). The legislators told the crowd of about 50 supporters at Harpo’s how important it is for alumni to talk to their friends and acquaintances in other areas of the state to encourage support for MU. Other topics included increasing state support for the operating budgets of higher education institutions, emphasizing the importance of capital improvement projects for MU, and encouraging support for more funding for higher education scholarship and financial aid programs. After discussing their priorities and goals for the year, the legislators were stationed at tables around the room to encourage informational conversations with MU supporters.
