The COMPASS project team continues to reach milestones on its path to implementing a more effective tool for budgeting and managing the university ’s limited resources. The project’s notable accomplishments in the past two weeks are rolling out budget development training for Hyperion-Financial (FIN) and migrating Hyperion Human Capital Planning (HCP) to a production environment. Below you’ll find details on both accomplishments as well as information on the support resources that are available to end users.

Need Help Using Hyperion?

Many campus units are now developing budgets for the next fiscal year – and they will create those budgets in Hyperion. Given that this is the first time many employees will use Hyperion for this task, it’s likely that questions will come up when completing the work. For help in using Hyperion, please contact your campus IT help desk. The help desk will assist and, if needed, escalate the question to the implementation team for assistance.

Contacting the IT help desk will allow the implementation team to respond promptly to the issue and, at the same time, create a log of the types of issues users are having so that the team can identify and fix systemic problems. For a visual representation of the help desk support model, refer to the Hyperion Support Flowchart.

Budget Development Training Taking Place This Week

Training is now available to end users on how to develop budgets using Hyperion. Training sessions are taking place on each campus throughout the week and will continue as needed over the coming weeks. The campus budget officers are delivering the training, allowing them to answer questions from their campus colleagues about how to use the tool in various campus-specific situations. For information on the training taking place on your campus, contact your campus budget office.

HCP in is Production!

Congratulations goes out the to the project team for its success in migrating the Hyperion HCP module to the production environment. The team is now checking the application to ensure that it works properly. The team will also load the application with timely and accurate data. After validating the functionality and data, the application will be made available to the Pilot Group.

While the team is completing the functional validation and data load, they are also running “performance” tests to ensure that the application works efficiently and can quickly process data when hundreds of users are performing the same task. These tests are being run after hours and on weekends to minimize impact to budget development.

For more information about the major steps involved in implementing a new IT application, refer to an October COMPASS newsletter article.
