Steering Committee Update

The Steering Committee was updated on the project’s status via email earlier today. Highlights of the update include:

  • Data Warehouse (DW) Reports: The design phase of the DW is now complete and specifications for the warehouse have been turned over to the DW team. This is a significant achievement in the project plan, which aims to complete phase one of the DW by July 2013.
  • Internet Explorer (IE) 9 Compatibility: Hyperion requires that employees use an earlier version of IE (version 8 or prior) than is used in some areas of the university. DoIT created a “ThinApp” that simulates IE8 when employees are using Hyperion. The ThinApp is not the ideal answer, so the project team is working with Oracle to identify a solution to this problem.
  • Hyperion Human Capital Planning (HCP): HCP has been migrated to production and the technical, functional, and data validation is complete. Training on HCP began this week.
  • Performance Testing: Performance testing indicates that Hyperion can successfully support all of the employees expected to use the system concurrently in the coming year. This means that the Hyperion applications can remain stable while efficiently processing data for end users.
  • Training & Communication: Training is taking place on all of the campuses for both (1) Hyperion Financial (FIN) Budget Development and (2) HCP. In addition, communications with the HCP Pilot Group have begun and will continue on a regular basis starting in March.

COMPASS Newsletter Phasing Out

The COMPASS project team is phasing out the COMPASS biweekly newsletter (i.e., this newsletter). After today’s biweekly newsletter edition, project updates will be provided through the COMPASS monthly newsletter. All subscribers of the biweekly newsletter will automatically begin receiving the COMPASS monthly newsletter. There is no need to sign up again.

The project team is making this change in response to end user feedback. The change also reflects the fact that the major modules of COMPASS’s Hyperion application have been deployed and are in various stages of adoption throughout the UM System. While fine-tuning and expansion of Hyperion will continue to take place, the biggest news about the project team’s implementation efforts will be reflected in the work completed by end users as they access Hyperion to be more productive and successful in their day-to-day work.
