2011 Presidential Search Advisory Committee             3/2/11

Charge and Members

 

 

The Board of Curators established a Presidential Search Advisory Committee to assist the Presidential Search Committee in the evaluation of candidates for President of the University of Missouri System, with the composition and selection of the advisory committee membership and the advisory committee’s charge to be as follows:

  1. Eight faculty chosen according to the following process: The Chancellor of each campus will submit a panel of four names to the Board of Curators from which the Chair, Search Committee will select members, two from each campus.  This panel of four will include the names of two of the campus’s Curators Professors and two of the campus’s Curators' Teaching Professors.

  2. One member representing University of Missouri Health Care:  Selected and appointed by Chair, Search Committee. 

  3. The chair of the Intercampus Staff Council: For continuity purposes, this member would continue as a member of the 2011 UM Presidential Search Advisory Committee as long as affiliated with the University of Missouri.

  4. The president or designated representative of each campus Alumni Association:  Jointly recommended to Chair, Search Committee, by Chancellor and President of each campus association.

  5. The chair and vice chair of the Intercampus Student Council:  Two students recommended by the Chair to the 2011 UM Presidential Search Committee. For continuity purposes, would continue as a member of the Committee as long as a student of the University of Missouri.    

  6. The chair of the Intercampus Faculty Council:  For continuity purposes, would continue as a member of the 2011 UM Presidential Search Advisory Committee as long as affiliated with the University of Missouri.   

  7. One member representing University Extension:  The Columbia campus Chancellor will submit two names to the Board of Curators from which the Chair of the Search Committee will select one name.

  8. One member representing University of Missouri Retirees:  The university retiree association will submit two names to the Board of Curators from which the Chair of the Search Committee will select one member.

  9. One member representing academic administration:  The Chancellor of each campus will submit one name to the Board of Curators from which the Chair, Search Committee will select one member to represent all campuses.  This panel will include the names of academic administrators at the Dean level or above.

 

The advisory committee will provide to the Search committee feedback on the qualifications of the President.  Each committee member should attend one or more public forums prior to submitting their final recommendations on the qualifications. 

The Advisory Committee will provide its input and evaluation to the Presidential Search Committee for the finalist(s).  The Presidential Search Committee will provide to the Advisory Committee finalist(s) names and background information for review and evaluation.  The members of the Advisory Committee will not be asked to rank the candidates but the members of the Advisory Committee will be asked for their perceptions on the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate and their suitability/potential to serve as President of the University of Missouri.
