Committee Roles and Responsibilities

Search committee members (Board of Curators and Student Representative)

  • Be an active recruiter
  • Consistently and fairly evaluate all applicants
  • Share responsibility with search firm to attract diverse pool and ensure fair and equitable treatment of all applicants
  • Maintain confidentiality of appropriate applicant information
  • Chair serves as liaison to UM staff and search consultant

Board secretary

  • Provides logistical and staff support to committee
  • Works with UM Communications to ensure website is maintained, and appropriate communications are sent

Vice President for Human Resources

  • Serves as liaison to search consultant, providing information as appropriate, and involving chair as necessary
  • Informs the committee of best practices designed to assure compliance with applicable regulations

Search firm/consultant

  • Provides expertise and advice on search process
  • Develops quality diverse pool of applicants
  • Conducts appropriate reviews of applicant information
  • Responds to questions from potential and actual applicants
