Strategic initiatives

Overview

Total Rewards is committed to the care of your health and wellbeing through its program offerings. Faculty, staff, and retirees are the cornerstone of the university community. In order to support the best in you in the best way possible, we are continuously researching and striving for ways to make our programs more accessible for you and more sustainable for the university.

Below are some of the major endeavors we have undertaken to make sure the Total Rewards package you receive as an employee of the University of Missouri System is as rewarding as possible.

Total Rewards Task Force: Reimagining our University Experience

Established in June 2013, the Total Rewards Task Force set forth eight recommendations for improving the Total Rewards Package Offerings. It is the strategic initiative at the root of our other strategic initiatives, and our guiding force in moving forward. Learn more.

Retiree Medical Study Stemming from Task Force recommendations, retiree medical plan offerings are being analyzed to ensure our retiree medical program best serves retirees, future retirees, and the university, while supporting retirees in getting the most for the medical premiums paid.

Defined Contribution Plan

The Defined Contribution Plan is the retirement package for employees hired on or after October 1, 2019, or returning employees rehired on or after October 1, 2019. Approved by the Board of Curators in April 2019, it includes a full defined contribution plan; an auto-enroll at hire/rehire that will help participants enjoy the maximum University match; and a three-year vesting period which remains consistent and equitable with the current defined contribution vesting period requirement for the Hybrid (ERIP) Plan.
