Nicholas Watanabe is an assistant teaching professor in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism at the University of Missouri. Watanabe was hired to develop the Sport Management Emphasis for the department. Watanabe’s research focuses on the management, communication and economics of sport, and has been published in: International Journal of Sport Finance, International Journal of Sport Management and Marketing, Oxford Handbook of Sports Economics Research, and International Sport Management. Watanabe has presented research internationally at: North American Society for Sport Management, Fifth Summit on Communication and Sport, Western Economic Association International, and also been invited to speak at Beijing Sport University in China, and the University of Western Cape in South Africa. Previously, Watanabe worked for the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer, and received a doctorate in Recreation, Sport and Tourism and masters in Leisure Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
