Rick Yakimo is an assistant professor of Nursing at UMSL. He is an advanced practice nurse (APN) with special interests in the mental health of older adults, traumatic stress, and the prevention of disability. All of his nursing degrees are from Saint Louis University. Yakimo highly values teaching and has conducted courses in psychiatric nursing, neuroscience, epidemiology, research methods, and nursing theory.
Yakimo's research interests concern health care quality, facilitating nurses’ use of evidence-based practice and outcomes analyses. Accordingly, he has collaborated on projects with colleagues from other nursing specialties as well as social work and pharmacy. He has also served as a hospital consultant for clinical research. Most recently, he served as junior editor of the text, Health Promotion Strategies Through the Life Span. He is also the Co-PI of a grant that supports clinical research among local APNs. In his quiet time, he enjoys mindfulness and living in his garden.
