Scott Uhlmann serves as Assistant Vice President at the University of Missouri System (UM) with responsibility for managing the system component of the university’s technology transfer operation and coordinating system-wide efforts regarding innovation and economic development.

In this capacity, he oversees the Office of Intellectual Property Administration where he leads a team that provides patent protection, market research and analysis, administrative support, policy development, and funding to assist the UM campuses in moving university innovations to the marketplace. In addition, he supports the economic development mission of the university through the establishment and oversight of policies and programs that encourage entrepreneurship, the establishment of new businesses, and access to seed and venture capital. He also represents the university on the boards of two university startup companies.

Scott began his work in the technology transfer program at the University of Missouri in 1997 and was appointed Assistant Vice President in September 2014. Prior to his current appointment, he served the university as Director, Office of Intellectual Property Administration [2006-2014]; Associate Director, Intellectual Property Management in the Office of Technology & Special Projects (OTSP) [2004-2006]; Coordinator, Technology Collaborations and Licensing in OTSP [2001-2004]; Licensing Associate in OTSP [1999-2001]; Interim Director of University Patents & Licensing (UP&L) [1999]; and Licensing Associate in UP&L [1997-1999].

Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Marketing from the University of Missouri-Columbia and served in the Missouri National Guard from 1982-1990.
