President's Award for Outstanding Teaching 2009

For a Ten-Year Career on a Missouri Campus

Purpose

The Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching recognizes outstanding teaching over a teaching career of no less than 10 years at a University of Missouri campus. The recipient may be asked to participate in future system or campus-wide teaching forums.

Award Amount

The award carries a stipend of $15,000, less applicable taxes.

Eligibility

Nominees must be tenured faculty members with at least 10 years of service on a University of Missouri campus. Each campus may submit one nominee.

Nomination Format

The format, which must be used for the nomination package, is described below. All nominations should contain evidence of outstanding and innovative teaching sustained over a decade or more, and all documentation and letters of support should be specific to this competition. Do not place the nomination package in a hard binder; however, tabs for the various sections are recommended for the convenience of the members of the selection committee. Pages should be numbered sequentially. Nomination packages will not be returned to the campuses.

Nomination packages should include:

• Table of Contents
• Statement of support from the nominator
• Nominee's curriculum vitae
• Nominee's personal philosophy of teaching statement, including how research and service are reflected in teaching
• List of courses taught by nominee (include number of credits and enrollment for each course)
• Summarization of all course evaluation data (separate for each course, include departmental norms, multiple sources and method of solicitation - EXCLUDE raw data)
• A maximum of 15 letters of support specifically for this award from alumni, students and peers. Provide a short description of those who are writing support letters. Descriptions should be succinct and along the lines of what is normally provided for P&T dossiers. Describe procedure used to solicit letters of support. This does not include the summaries of teaching evaluations.
• Course syllabi (maximum of 3 samples)
• Offer evidence of how candidate's teaching and research efforts are integrated.
• Describe the nature and number of teaching awards offered on campus as well as an explanatory sentence describing the awards the candidate has won, if applicable.

Submissions

Ten (10) copies of the nomination package should be submitted from the appropriate designee on the campus to the Office of the Sr. Vice President for Academic Affairs, Attn: Ms. Sam Kanatzar, 518 Clark Hall, Columbia, MO 65211.

Deadline

February 27 , 2009: Check with your campus designated office for their scheduled deadline.
