New Degree Programs
Welcome Letter
Nov. 3, 2008
Welcome to the new degree proposal section of the academic affairs Web site. The related links are designated to communicate the process, associated timetable, and forms to get a new degree proposal through all the approval channels.
- Criteria: provides a list of components necessary for a proposal. It is recommended that the proposal is written in this order to ensure all content is covered. The criteria document is designed to serve as a guide to facilitate the review and approval process.
- Preliminary Proposal: beginning in winter 2009, each campus provost’s office is requiring a brief preliminary proposal to ensure that there is substantive interest and rationale for the proposed degree. This simple guide will help make a business case for the degree program, focus on the content of the program, and the necessary resources to build and sustain a degree program.
- Forms: These forms have to be included in the proposal for CBHE approval.
- Financial Projection Form: These spreadsheets are required and must be reviewed and approved by the chief fiscal officer on campus.
- Timeline: The time table outlines the various levels and approvals needed for proposed program to be approved.
- Sample Proposals: Bachelor of Liberal Studies (UMSL), Masters of Public Health (MU), and PhD. in Systems Engineering (Missouri S&T).
The standard procedures for approval are provided in the timeline. Each proposal goes through a campus approval process, and once approved by the Offices of the Provost and Chancellor the proposal is sent to the system office for review and approval. Optimal results are achieved through close coordination with the academic departments, the provosts’ office and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Any new proposal should be vetted through all channels to ensure the proposal covers all criteria, includes all forms and the financial projections spreadsheet. The materials on this web site are provided for convenience and to facilitate coordination among all parties.
Sincerely,
Steve Graham
Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs
