New Faculty Teaching Scholars

About the Program

Supporting the development of new faculty is the primary responsibility of individual campus and department leadership. However, "supporting early-career faculty members clearly is everyone's work." (1) New Faculty Teaching Scholars (NFTS) represents a system-wide effort to support individual campus efforts at enhancing faculty acclimation to new roles and responsibilities. NFTS also works to build collegiality and individual capacity for academic success. The University of Missouri NFTS program serves to maintain intra-campus involvement and control while providing an integrative framework creating opportunities for inter-campus communication and collaboration. In this way, it is expected that new faculty members will be better supported to address the specific needs and procedures at their immediate work environment while simultaneously, over the period of one year, be exposed to topics common and helpful to all new faculty regardless of where they work.
