Leadership Development

The Leadership Development Program 2007

Hold the Dates!

These sessions are still to be determined.

The LDP is an exciting year-long program that is part of the President’s Academic Leadership Institute (PALI), an effort to provide leadership development opportunities and ongoing support to academic leaders on all four campuses. This year’s session will focus on strengthening leadership for academic department chairs and directors as well as assistant and associate deans.

The LDP begins with a four-day session from September 24 –27, 2007 at the Lodge of Four Seasons at the Lake of the Ozarks. It is an opportunity to assess leadership styles, work with other academic leaders to solve actual problems, develop an informal network of expertise, enhance personal leadership skills, and work with other emerging leaders at the University of Missouri.

In addition to the intensive fall component, all participants will meet once every three months throughout the year for one-day sessions to concentrate on topics of interest to the group. Furthermore, local campus groups meet about once a month over lunch to discuss common concerns, upcoming campus initiatives, and share ideas and advice. Participants are encouraged to identify real department issues they would like to tackle during the year and work with other academic leaders to address them.

“The University of Missouri stands on the threshold of a new era, and graduates of the Leadership Development Program are leading the way. They are taking on important leadership roles throughout our University.”

Dr. Elson S. Floyd,
President
University of Missouri

The general program content will be hands-on—using case studies and an interactive format with simulations to discuss real issues that academic administrators face. This will be an exciting opportunity to be part of the Institute and help develop the academic leadership potential of the University of Missouri for the future.

Department chairs and other academic leaders are encouraged to visit with their deans about being nominated for participation. The Chief Academic Officer (CAO) on campus along with the Academic Deans will formally nominate candidates. The nomination form (PDF 387 KB) is available on this website. The nomination forms are due in the CAO’s office by Friday, May 25th. Each campus will then decide on a final group of campus nominations by June 16th.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic leadership program offered by the University of Missouri. To obtain more specific information about the LDP, potential participants may want to discuss the program with others on their campus who will be attending this year's program. A list of participants is also available; you may wish to contact them as well.

Note: Not all nominees will be selected for participation in the Leadership Development Program for fall 2005. The goal is to identify a diverse group of chairs who represent all campuses and disciplines and include a wide range of experience and expertise. This will be an ongoing program and we hope that all academic leaders who are interested will be able to participate in future sessions.
