Executive coaching helps organizational leaders or executives develop strengths, minimize weaknesses and maintain focus. Working with a trained behavioral science consultant or coach, the executives learn to identify challenges and obstacles they face in the academic environment, develop action plans, enhance their working relationships with subordinates and superiors, and find the balance between achievement and personal growth.
The PALI Executive Coaching program is:
A 360 degree assessment gathers information from administrators, managers, peers and subordinates to help senior university administrators see themselves as others see them.
Through both anonymous feedback and self-assessment, senior officials are able to take a step back and objectively consider their own skills, abilities, leadership and management styles and job-related competencies. Essential to the successful outcome of the process is interpretation by an assessment expert. The expert helps design an action plan to correct weaknesses and provides follow-up and support at a later time. The assessment results and interpretation are COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL and are not shared with anyone else at the University.
As people move up in organizational leadership positions it becomes increasingly difficult for them to obtain honest feedback. Some argue that senior executives become isolated from real-time, unvarnished feedback about the impact of their leadership. Subordinates often feel uncomfortable providing candid feedback to their superiors, yet leaders need candid and constructive information on how they affect others and how they can improve.
Executive coaching programs provide an opportunity to receive feedback in a safe environment. Self assessment tools are used in conjunction with the ratings of others as a means to increase self-awareness and as a way to compare the self-assessment data against the impressions of others.
Academic administrators might also want to use executive coaching to identify their strengths and weaknesses as they take on expanded roles, seek new challenges, or look for a better balance between their professional and personal lives.
Academic deans, associate provosts, vice chancellors, and other senior academic administrators at the University of Missouri may participate.
The executive coaching program will be conducted using consultants from Triangle Associates, a university and health care consulting firm that has been involved in leadership development for over two decades. Two of the senior associates will conduct the assessment interpretations and follow-up coaching sessions.
Triangle Associates has assisted with the Leadership Development Program for the past three years. Costs During the coming year the Executive Coaching program is available without charge to senior officials at the University of Missouri. Future costs will be based on funding availability.
