The Office of the General Counsel is responsible for the legal representation of the University of Missouri. This statement is all encompassing, since the responsibility includes the legal representation of the Board of Curators; the public corporation known as the curators of the University of Missouri; the entire university system including the president, the vice presidents, the campuses of the university; the Extension division; the University Hospital and Clinics; and employees of the university in their official capacities. The responsibilities of the general counsel, and in the Office of the General Counsel, are set forth in a portion of the board of curators bylaws, which bylaws are attached.

The office works closely with faculty, staff and administrative colleagues on the four campuses to render advice on the broad range of legal issues confronting a modern, public, research University.
