Employment of individuals related as closely as the fourth degree to any member of the Board of Curators or as closely as the second degree to an administrative superior is generally prohibited with certain exceptions. A person who is related by blood or marriage more remotely than the second degree to any employee of the University may be employed by the University without regard to the relationship.
No person who is related by blood or marriage to any member of the Board of Curators within the fourth degree, by blood (consanguinity) or marriage (affinity), may be employed by the University.
Any person related by blood or marriage as closely as the second degree to any employee of the University may be employed by the University, unless the employee and his/her administrative superior are related, or the relative of an administrative superior in one department is employed in another department, where a prospective employee for the first department is related to an administrative superior in the other department. However, the President of the University has discretion to waive these exceptions in the case of nonregular employment.
The term "employees" includes officers, academic staff members and all other employees of the University.
An administrative superior is any person who recommends the appointment or promotion, or certifies the salary of another person including all levels of administration where these functions, or any one or more of them, are performed.
A person is related by blood (consanguinity) or marriage (affinity) as closely as the second degree by the common law to his/her spouse and to the following blood relatives of the person or of his/her spouse: Children - Grandchildren, Parents - Grandparents, Brothers - Sisters, Nephews - Nieces, Uncles - Aunts, and First Cousins. Under this policy, stepchildren, stepparents, etc., shall be considered the same as blood relatives of the employee or employee's spouse.
