3270 Attention Function

Since the OS/390 2.6 upgrade, the "Attention" function of TN3270 appears to be available to users with appropriate terminal emulator packages. For SuperSession users, attention will display their SupperSession menu, even from a locked application screen. If you are directly connected to TSO, attention will "break" a running task.

Attention is supported by various emulators in different ways:

In days long past, when we were moving from SNA to TN3270, many users wanted the attention function, but it wasn't available at that time via TN3270. A somewhat equivalent function was available under OS/390 1.2. The RESET key could be used, then the SuperSession \m command could be used to return to the menu. The RESET key no longer works under OS/390 2.6. It is as if the protocol of TN3270 sessions had changed from non-SNA to SNA.
