The upgrade to PeopleSoft Financials 8.8 was completed in the first two weeks of April of 2005. All Financials systems are now fully functional on the new version. All modules, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Grants Management, and Purchasing, were included in this upgrade.
PeopleSoft released this new version of their Financials suite of software in the fourth quarter of 2003. Version 8.8 is fully web-enabled, allowing any user with a web browser to access the PeopleSoft applications. The need for individual client installation and workstation maintenance has been eliminated. In addition to enabling the applications for the web, PeopleSoft delivers improved functionality and additional features in this new version.
Many of the modifications that were made to the original PeopleSoft system have been carried over to the new version, so that the University can continue to operate. Additional changes have also been made to enhance the already improved functionality. These changes include a new Grants Proposal Express functionality and enhanced GL Feeder processing.
In switching to PeopleSoft’s new version of the software, the University has taken advantage of enhancements made to the chartfield attribute functionality. In version 8.8, attributes can be assigned directly to the chartfields, which will allow for more flexible reporting. Included in the list of chartfields to have this enhancement are Department ID and Program.
Just a reminder: the standard PeopleSoft Financials maintenance outage is from 6:00 PM Saturday to Noon Sunday, every weekend. PeopleSoft applications are unavailable for system maintenance during this time.
