Student Administration Update

Upgrade to version 8.9

UMR will upgrade to version 8.9 of the Oracle/PeopleSoft Student Administration system January 13-17. Joe'SS (Joe Miner Self-Service) will be unavailable from 5:00 pm on January 13 until 6:00 am January 17. The upgrade will provide users with an improved form of navigation, while basic processes and screens are relatively unchanged. In particular, students will see a new "student center" page from which they can navigate to their academic information. Further information is available at http://campus.umr.edu/registrar/psinfo/.

PeopleSoft or Legacy – which is it for which system and which campus?!!

Student Administrative Information Systems are commonly referred to by many acronyms including the most common ones such as SIS, CSAR, SAM, RL, SA, SS, SF and FA. What do all of those mean and which ones might be important to you? Read on…

Unlike the Finance applications and the Human Resource applications which are operating totally with the PeopleSoft software, the Student Systems are using a combination of existing legacy software and PeopleSoft software.

PeopleSoft Applications

UMR, UMKC and UMSL are live on People Soft (PS) for Recruitment and Admissions (RA or AD). MU continues to use the legacy student applications while working toward implementing PS Recruit and Admit at some point (exact date not established yet). All four campus Admissions office staff actively participate in the PS Admissions work group and meet with EAS staff on a regular bi-weekly basis.

UMR Student Records (SR) and UMR Student Financials (SF) converted to PeopleSoft in January, 2004 and stopped using the legacy Student Information System (SIS) and Consolidated Student Accounts Receivable (CSAR) system. Student self service (SS or Joe’SS as it is known on the UMR campus) replaced the legacy STAR and TTVR applications that students used to check their class schedule, register for classes, pay fees, request a degree audit or unofficial transcript for example.

All EAS Student Administration (SA) team efforts are being directed at supporting critical legacy application changes and PeopleSoft applications that are already implemented. Until the PS applications in production are stable, we are not focusing any resources on converting another campus or another module from legacy to PS.

Legacy Student System Applications

All campuses remain on the legacy Student Aid Management (SAM) financial aid system for now with intentions to use the PS Financial Aid (FA) module. No implementation dates have been established for this move.

UMKC, UMSL and MU continue to operate using SIS for student records and CSAR for student accounts receivables.

Interfaces have been written to pass data from PS Student Records and PS Student Financials back into SAM for the UMR campus and back into SIS for the other campuses. There is also a daily interface between the PS Admissions data and legacy SIS for all campuses except Rolla.

Housing Director for Residential Life

Legacy residential life software is part of SIS and is/was used by MU and UMR. Because PeopleSoft does not deliver a residential life component, alternative client server software was acquired and each of the campuses are in varying stages of moving from legacy SIS or a paper system to using The Housing Director (THD or HD for short!) software. Again, we have interfaces written to transfer data from THD into either CSAR, SIS or PS as needed.

People Soft Maintenance Window

The standard maintenance outage for the SAPRD80 production instance is Saturday 6:00 PM until 12:00 Noon Sunday, every weekend. PeopleSoft applications are unavailable for system maintenance during this time. The Reporting instance SARPT80 is still available, however. The SARPT80 instance is refreshed nightly at midnight from that day’s SAPRD80 instance. SARPT80 in unavailable nightly from 12:00 midnight until 1:00 a.m. while the refresh is taking place.
