Counsel

Susan joined the Office of the General Counsel in 2011, and she represents the University primarily in the areas of technology transfer, intellectual property and transactions.  Her responsibilities include managing the legal aspects associated with licensing and other technology transfer activities; participating in the enforcement of the University’s intellectual property policies and contract rights; assisting in the development of intellectual property educational programs; drafting and reviewing real estate and other contracts; and working on University transactions.

Prior to joining the Office of the General Counsel, Susan held several in house legal positions including General Counsel, Enturia, Inc.; General Counsel, CyDex, Inc.; Senior Corporate Counsel, Farmland Industries, Inc.; and Corporate Counsel, Hoechst Marion Roussel Inc. (formerly Marion Laboratories, Inc.).  Immediately prior to joining the Office of the General Counsel, she held the positions of Associate Professor of Law and Director of Technology Transfer at the University of Missouri—Kansas City.

Susan has a Bachelor’s degree magna cum laude in Linguistics from the University of Missouri—Columbia (1977) and a J.D. with honors from the University of Missouri—Kansas City (1983).  She is licensed to practice law in the state of Missouri.
