University of Missouri President Elson S. Floyd and University of Missouri-Columbia Chancellor Brady Deaton announced today that the Laurie family is transferring to the University the naming rights to the new MU basketball arena.

Under the terms of the naming rights agreement, Bill and Nancy Laurie had the legal right to retain the naming rights. Their relinquishment of those rights was a decision they made voluntarily.

The Board of Curators has not yet met to consider the naming, but when a meeting is held to discuss the matter, it will be publicly announced.

President Floyd and Chancellor Deaton expressed appreciation for the Laurie family’s decision. "We are deeply grateful to the Laurie family for their generosity," President Floyd said. "They are tremendous supporters of this institution."

"We continue to be grateful to the Laurie family for their long-time support of MU in academics and athletics," MU Chancellor Brady Deaton said. "Their generosity is helping us build a nationally renowned research university and a sports complex that will serve our student-athletes at the highest level. We respect their decision in this matter, and we will make a naming recommendation in the near future."
