Dr. Gordon H. Lamb, Interim President of the University of Missouri, will launch the 2007 University Unity tour in Springfield on Monday, October 29. Dr. Lamb will make a joint presentation with Dr. Michael Nietzel, President of Missouri State University.

Dr. Lamb and Dr. Nietzel are to appear together before a 3:30 p.m. meeting of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce at its headquarters, 202 South John Q. Hammons Parkway.

The presidents will discuss the common missions of Missouri’s public higher education institutions, including teaching, service and accountability. The presidents are focusing on a collaborative plan to increase graduates in the health care professions to meet the needs of Missourians. This is the second consecutive year the University of Missouri’s president has joined presidents of other four-year institutions on their campuses to discuss how they work together to help meet the state’s goals and needs.

This fall, Dr. Lamb and his public higher education counterparts have so far scheduled University Unity events at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg; Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph; Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville; Truman State University in Kirksville; and on the four University of Missouri campuses, in Columbia, Kansas City, Rolla and St. Louis.
