Dr. Gordon H. Lamb, Interim President of the University of Missouri, announced Tuesday that he is establishing The Missouri 100, an advisory group of leading citizens dedicated to assisting him in uniting support for UM's statewide missions.
The Missouri 100 will work with the President as advocates for public higher education, and assist him in carrying statewide a unified message about the unique role of the University of Missouri. With one voice, the group will promote the University's missions of excellence in teaching, world-class research, service to all of our citizens and economic growth through scientific discovery.
"The University has statewide missions through our four campuses, Extension and UM Health Care. The Missouri 100 will advise and support the president in nurturing and building on these strengths, and will provide for the president a wonderful statewide sounding board for new ideas," Dr. Lamb said.
The Missouri 100 theme is: "Your University. Missouri's Future."
"This theme embodies a deep conviction that Missouri's future prosperity and growth can be maximized by preserving and strengthening our state's only public research University with roots in the land grant tradition," Dr. Lamb said. "The president will benefit from the experience and insights of such an organization."
As he builds The Missouri 100, Dr. Lamb is inviting prospective members including prominent alumni representing the four campuses and leaders from a variety of fields. Dr. Lamb expects the membership to grow in stages until it reaches the century mark. He plans to host the first gathering of The Missouri 100 this fall.
