BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The Manager, Support Services-MOI provides strategic and operational leadership for support service departments at the Missouri Orthopedic Institute (MOI). Oversees functions including nutrition and food services, clinical engineering, plant engineering, materials management, security services, hospitality, valet, housekeeping, and linen services. Ensures service excellence, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and alignment with MU Health Care's mission and goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Directs operations of assigned support service areas, including personnel management, policy development, financial oversight, and regulatory compliance.

Oversees materials management, including procurement, storage, and distribution of equipment and supplies for MOI.

Ensures equipment provision and maintenance support safety, infection control, and performance standards.

Directs food and nutrition services operations, including credentialing, licensure, and certification processes.

Collaborates with MOI leadership and staff to promote a high-quality, compassionate service culture.

Leads performance improvement efforts aimed at enhancing patient, physician, and employee satisfaction.

Supervises workload standards, productivity monitoring, and staff performance via subordinate leaders.

Develops and communicates annual budgets, goals, and operational objectives to leadership and staff.

Monitors and ensures regulatory compliance and continuous quality improvement in all service areas.

Coordinates with global managers across MU Health Care to ensure consistency in service line performance and objectives.

Maintains visibility with patients, staff, and physicians through routine rounding to reinforce service excellence.

Participates in organizational activities, including hospital committees, staff education, and community outreach.

Leads a culture of safety through proactive risk mitigation and continuous quality improvement, taking measures to evaluate regulatory readiness routinely. Monitors and analyzes safety and performance metrics to identify trends and implement corrective actions for staff and/or patients as appropriate.

Manages the development, coordination, and maintenance of daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of coverage and continuity of care.

Monitors and oversees time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely approval for payroll purposes.

May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of unit workflows, policies, and procedures to manage daily operations, maintain standards, and support quality improvement.

Applies leadership and interpersonal skills to supervise staff, foster collaboration, and drive accountability and service excellence.

Uses foundational budgeting and compliance skills to manage resources, support survey readiness, and ensure regulatory adherence.

Excellent guest relations and service recovery skills.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision is received from the Director, Service Line.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervision is exercised over leaders of Support Services. Functional supervision is exercised over security officers, maintenance workers, housekeeping staff, storekeepers, food service workers, cooks, hospitality staff, and other support personnel.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired.

Five (5) years of experience in a healthcare or service industry.

Two (2) years of supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
