The Director, Perioperative Supply Chain Services implements, measures, and directs supply chain activities within the Surgical and Procedural Services departments in conjunction with other supply chain stakeholders. The Director creates alignment with the clinical agenda and contributes to the development and execution of supply expense and strategic plans. This role supports the goal of creating an environment that makes MU Health System facilities providers of choice for surgeons and other specialty physicians.
Serve as the perioperative supply chain leader across all MU Health System surgical and procedural service lines, ensuring system-wide standardization, alignment with clinical priorities, and high reliability of supply delivery.
Collaborate with surgical and executive leadership to develop long-range capital and operational supply strategies in support of growth plans, new technology adoption, and clinical performance improvement.
Implement and oversee advanced analytics to drive cost-per-case visibility, surgical service line margin improvement, and surgeon-level performance benchmarking.
Lead preference card optimization initiatives using Al-driven tools, clinical feedback, and system analytics to minimize waste, streamline case prep, and ensure supply accuracy.
Design and manage auditing protocols to ensure accurate, compliant supply charge capture and effective data interface between perioperative systems and billing platforms.
Drive initiatives that reduce surgical supply variation, engage surgeons in value-based decision-making, and promote evidence-based product utilization.
Direct system optimization efforts related to PeopleSoft, Cerner, RFID tracking, and automated operating room (OR) supply systems to improve efficiency, visibility, and inventory accuracy.
Champion sustainable perioperative supply chain practices, including environmentally preferred purchasing, waste reduction, and packaging improvements.
Develop protocols for backorder response, consignment program oversight, and high-risk item tracking to ensure resiliency across surgical services.
Oversee staffing, training, and leadership development for perioperative supply chain teams, including cross-training, workforce optimization, and succession
planning.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards governing OR supply handling, inventory control, documentation, and procurement.
Lead a culture of safety through proactive risk mitigation and continuous quality improvement, taking measures to evaluate regulatory readiness routinely. Monitor and analyze safety and performance metrics to identify trends and implement corrective actions for staff and/or patients as appropriate.
Oversee the development, coordination, and maintenance of daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of coverage and continuity of care across units.
Direct the implementation and oversight of MU Health Care time and attendance policies and practices.
May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
Knowledge of supply chain operations and building a clinically integrated supply chain system.
Familiarity with Periodic Automatic Replacement (PAR) Excellence Inventory Management System, PeopleSoft, Cerner, and SurgiNet.
Applies broad clinical and administrative knowledge to align departmental strategy with health system goals and patient outcomes.
Leads managers and supervisors to foster accountability, develop talent, and ensure high performance across service areas.
Drives operational efficiency through advanced planning, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement across internal and external initiatives.
Supervision is received from the Executive Director, Supply Chain.
Supervision is exercised over supply chain and materials staff.
Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, materials management, economics, healthcare administration, or a related field.
Master's degree in business administration, finance, materials management, economics, healthcare administration, or a related field, or an equivalent
combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.
Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in supply chain.
Experience with C-Suite, clinical, or medical staff initiatives.
Experience with operating room, surgical services, and procedural services.
Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
