Assists pharmacy management in providing overall effective procurement, management, and delivery of pharmaceuticals along with excellent customer service. Manage cost-effective practices, align with GPO and vendor contracts, budgets, and regulatory standards. Identify and assist with implementing cost saving opportunities.
PROCUREMENT: Effectively manage procurement, distribution, payment, and invoice reconciliation of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy supplies according to GPO and vendor contracts including the handling of drug shortages with alternatives. Coordinate annual physical medication inventory for the MU Veterinary Health Center.
CUSTOMER SERVICE: Oversee management of adequate inventory and floor stock par levels of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy supplies. Provide effective communication to management, co-workers, and vendors to establish collaborative communication, especially as related to the activity status of pharmaceutical accounts. Proactively review current vendor contracts and make recommendations to the pharmacy manager regarding necessary changes or potential new vendor relationships. Serves as a professional and knowledgeable representative of the organization to outside vendors. Follow all University of Missouri Veterinary Health Center policies when meeting with industry representatives or other vendors.
PHARMACY OPERATIONS: Assist the MU VHC Pharmacy with day-to-day operations as needed including afterhours drug charge entry, VetView pharmacy database maintenance, Omnicell training and stocking, and customer service requests. Serve as an afterhours on-call pharmacy resource and assist with emergency dispensing procedures. Direct advanced questions to an on-call pharmacist as needed.
ACCOUNT AND CONTRACT MANAGEMENT: Manage all pharmaceutical purchase accounts via monthly review and inventory management. Participates in quarterly wholesaler drug purchase review. Monitor stock to ensure current dated pharmaceutical supplies and remove expired stock and arrange for the return for proper reimbursement.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT: Provide training and assesses the performance of pharmacy staff members as delegated by the pharmacy manager. Foster positive team collaboration and staff development to facilitate efficient operations, employee engagement, and achievement of customer service goals. Discuss new product usage, cost, and availability with pharmaceutical industry representatives to keep abreast of changes in the industry.
COST SAVINGS: Identify and implement savings initiatives i.e., generic forecast along with opportunities to reduce drug wastage and expiration. May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.
Supervision is received from the MU Veterinary Health Center Pharmacy Manager.

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired is necessary. Experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmaceutical or medical supply purchasing agent. Pharmacy Technician licensure by the Missouri Board of Pharmacy. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.
Associate's degree in business, administration, or a related field. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
