The Executive Director, MOI and Surgical Services for the MU Health Care system serves as a member of the executive leadership team, providing strategic oversight for enterprise surgical services, including all locations, and direct leadership of the Missouri Orthopedic Institute (MOI). Leads planning, financial performance, personnel management, regulatory compliance, service excellence, and overall operational outcomes for MOI and assigned perioperative areas. Oversees the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Recovery Unit, Same Day Surgery, Pre-operative Holding, and Central Sterile Processing. Communicates and collaborates with surgical department chairs, administrators, service line directors, and other leaders to ensure efficient utilization of perioperative resources and alignment with organizational strategic priorities.
Assists in the development, implementation, and enforcement of health system policies and procedures to support MU Health Care's mission and business objectives.
Interprets and communicates approved policies to managers and staff to ensure consistent understanding and application.
Integrates efforts across departments and facilities by sharing information, negotiating priorities, and balancing system-wide needs.
Maintains visibility and accessibility to patients, physicians, and staff to foster engagement and responsiveness.
Directs and coordinates strategic operations of MOI and Surgical Services, including recruitment, financial management, internal policy development, and operational planning.
Leads goal setting and performance initiatives related to quality, service, people, growth, community, and financial outcomes.
Assists in short- and long-term planning for facility construction and renovation projects across MOI and Surgical Services.
Drives performance improvement initiatives to enhance satisfaction, reduce expenses, improve productivity, and meet quality and financial targets.
Ensures adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards, including Centers of Excellence requirements.
Manages organizational change through clear communication of vision, mission, assignments, and expectations.
Partners with medical staff and engages them in planning and operations as appropriate.
Establishes relationships with internal University stakeholders and external regulatory, financial, and professional agencies.
Participates in institutional, medical staff, campus, and community activities and educational programs. Serves on relevant administrative committees.
Collaborates with division chiefs, department chairs, service line directors, and executive leadership to develop and achieve strategic goals across surgical services and the orthopedic service line.
Leads a culture of safety through proactive risk mitigation and continuous quality improvement, taking measures to routinely evaluate regulatory readiness. Monitors and analyzes safety and performance metrics to identify trends and implement corrective actions for staff and/or patients as appropriate.
May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
Defines and executes system-wide strategies to advance the mission, health equity, and patient-centered care.
Leads multi-campus operations with alignment across clinical, academic, and administrative domains to ensure cohesive execution.
Oversees complex budgets and regulatory structures, aligning finances with population health goals and building key external partnerships.
Supervision is received from the assigned Chief Officer or designee.
Supervision is exercised over professional, technical, and support staff in assigned areas.
Master's degree in health administration, business administration, or a related field.
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in health care operations at the management level.
Experience in an academic medical center or large tertiary teaching hospital.
Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
