BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

Responsible for the development, direction, and performance of multi-faceted strategic healthcare service initiatives across the system. Provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction to cross-functional teams supporting the advancement of the portfolio of initiatives identified by the executive team as a priority for the organization. Promotes innovation through advocacy of best practice and continuous improvement, serving as an expert for the programs both internally and externally. Works closely with senior leadership to align projects with system-wide strategic goals and initiatives. Oversees a team of project managers and cross-functional teams to manage portfolio health in real-time and serves as the primary point of contact for senior leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Accountable for vision, strategy, and success of large scale, multi-faceted initiatives that advance the organizational ability to meet the needs of our patients, providers, and communities.

Manage a portfolio of complex programs and projects, facilitate collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders, and serve as an executive leadership liaison.

Partner with strategy leaders to develop initiatives in alignment with organizational objectives. Evaluate program deliverables and assesses in relationship to strategic goals.

Provide longitudinal oversight of programs and establish direct or dotted line reporting with project managers to coordinate the portfolio of initiatives and activities throughout the organization to drive advancement and promote continuous improvement.

Serve as primary point of contact for senior leadership to provide comprehensive portfolio reporting. Communicate key project information to enable timely decisions and necessary prioritization.

Drive portfolio management within the organization by remaining abreast of current trends and best practices of project and portfolio management and incorporates standards into daily practice.

Engage in business case planning, facilitate organizational consensus, and ensure that necessary resources and funding for new strategies and initiatives is in place. Ensure alignment and prioritization of ongoing programmatic functions.

Define and actively monitor program performance measures and effectively communicate success and barriers to all levels of the organization.

Ensure accreditation and/or regulatory compliance through oversight of policies, procedures, and standards for all components of the program(s).

Oversee strategic portfolio initiatives through cross-functional matrix leadership. Responsible for educating, developing, and supporting leaders and staff to ensure optimal portfolio performance.

Directly manage enterprise project managers and maintain oversight of administrative fellows for MU Health Care and School of Medicine.

Drive positive culture transformation and system-wide awareness of programs through education, advocacy, communication, and employee engagement.

May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision is received from the Chief Operations Officer or designee.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Administrative supervision is exercised over staff and administrative fellows.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree.

Master's degree in health administration, business administration, public health, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

Seven (7) years of project management, strategic planning, business operations, or related experience.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification by the Project Management Institute (PMI) within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
