The Sterile Processing Technician Certified, CRMC is responsible for supply and support functions for nursing units and the operating room at Capital Region Medical Center. Ensures the preparation, tracking and sterilization of equipment and instruments in an accurate and timely manner. Prepares operating room case carts, sterile trays and supplies.
Disassemble, clean, assemble and test instrumentation for proper functioning.
Perform and participate in the decontamination, inspection, cleaning assembling, and packaging of medical/surgical materials including instruments and equipment according to established standards and procedures to ensure a sterile and functioning supply of materials.
Prepare trays and specialty carts for designated areas according to prescribed procedures. Wrap and/or package items for specified areas according to procedures prescribed for those designated areas. Operate instrument tracking systems.
Use knowledge of different types of sterilization materials and equipment to choose the appropriate material for sterilization processes.
Assist in the maintenance of supply and materials inventory including documenting usage, issuing, receiving, and recording as assigned.
May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

One (1) year of experience as a surgical sterilization tech. Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification by Healthcare
Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification by National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or surgical technologist program graduation may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification by HSPA within one (1) year of hire as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.

This role may also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
