The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for MU Health Care is accountable for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the fiscal operations of all locations of the MU Health System. Responsible for the administration, development, and implementation of financial plans, policies, and programs; operating strategies and financial outcomes, including operations and capital budgeting, forecasting, and financial control models; accounting processes and systems; and oversight of mergers and acquisitions that support the overall fiscal success of the organization while maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and reporting requirements. Functions as a strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), advising on all financial-related activities.
Directs all financial functions, both strategic and operational, including expense management, revenue cycle, planning, M&A activities, and sets criteria for capital expenditures, and actively participates in the capital planning, budgeting, and approval process.
Sets the strategic financial direction for MU Health Care in consultation with the CEO and the senior leadership team. Benchmarks innovations and trends in healthcare and the economy to evaluate the organization's relative position and to identify opportunities and threats in the market. Analyzes the organization's infrastructure to assess strengths and weaknesses.
Serves as the source, gatekeeper, and interpreter of financial information, ensuring that accurate, relevant, and timely information and analysis on the current and projected financial condition of MU Health Care is provided to the UM CFO, Board of Curators, Board Committees, and senior management.
Serves as a trusted partner and advisor to the CEO.
Ensures the optimal use of resources through the development of and monitoring of key financial indicators, variance analysis, expense reduction, productivity enhancement, and statistical analysis.
Provides analysis of general economic, business, and financial conditions and regulatory changes and their impact on the organization's policies and operations, and advises leadership as necessary.
Recommends budget-planning guidelines to leadership and is accountable for the preparation of operating and capital budgets.
Provides insightful analysis on local, regional, and national trends and
business conditions, and the implications for program and facility planning.
Provides operational support and guidance to the senior leadership team and their staff.
Participates in the cost and operational impacts of nursing operations, personnel policies and programs.
Works with senior operating executives to identify and implement business plans that are sound and further the interests of the organization.
Supports activities of internal, external, and compliance audits.
Represents MU Health Care throughout the community and the health care financial management profession, providing representation to community organizations.
Participates in professional activities, maintaining professional affiliations to keep abreast of current trends/changes and legislation in the field.
Provides for the organization and maintenance of an effective system of accounting and cost determination. Continually reviews and modifies cost systems and data collection to assure maximum cost reimbursement for patient services. Prepares periodic reports outlining the organization's financial position in all areas of assets, liabilities, income, and expenses, based on past, present, and planned future operations.
Participates in the development of objectives and organizational structure. Organizes work, allocating and scheduling assignments to be performed, and recommending positions and staffing required. Establishing and maintaining appropriate records and reports.
Prepares and ensures timely filing of federal, state, hospital association, third-party, and other financial-related reports as required.
Works with appropriate representatives of MUHC to ensure current and adequate insurance protection to protect the organization from liability and other losses.
Performs cost studies involving third parties, including local, state, and federal agencies.
Directs, through subordinate supervisors, the care and maintenance of finance facilities, equipment, and supplies.
Remains visible, accessible, and transparent with colleagues, physicians, staff, and patients.
Supports and provides leadership of financial integration/consolidation and operating efficiency opportunities within MU Health Care, affiliates, and network partners.
Represents MU Health Care as needed in various professional and business
organizations.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

Defines and executes system-wide strategies to advance the mission, health equity, and patient-centered care.
Leads multi-campus operations with alignment across clinical, academic, and administrative domains to ensure cohesive execution.
Oversees complex budgets and regulatory structures, aligning finances with population health goals and building key external partnerships.
Supervision is received from the Chief Executive Officer, MU Health Care and matrixed to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for MU Health.
Supervision is exercised over all Finance Departments at MU Health Care.
Master's degree in accounting, business administration, hospital administration, or a health-related field.
Ten (10) years of progressive leadership in accounting and fiscal management.
Five (5) years of experience at a level equivalent to that of a senior executive in the academic health system sector.
Experience in managed care, integrated health delivery and network/partnership development.
Experience within a teaching hospital or an academic medical center is strongly preferred.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by the Missouri Board of Accountancy.
Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
