BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The Nurse Manager, Clinical Education leads system-wide clinical education for inpatient and outpatient nurses and nursing support staff across the MU Health Care system. This position is responsible for the development, coordination, and delivery of clinical education programs that align with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practice. The Nurse Manager ensures consistent application of competency assessment, instructional design, and staff development initiatives while fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment throughout the health system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manages the staffing, fiscal resources, and daily operations of the clinical education team to ensure efficient program delivery and alignment with organizational goals.

Establishes, implements, and coordinates policies, procedures, and education programs that support consistent practice standards and staff competency across the system.

Plans and directs daily operational activities of the clinical education team, supervising staff and overseeing adherence to established policies and procedures.

Consults with organizational leaders, clinical managers, and compliance stakeholders to assess training needs and identify system-wide educational priorities.

Develops and executes short- and long-term strategic plans to meet the clinical education needs of MU Health Care.

Prioritizes educational initiatives based on alignment with system goals, staff needs, and regulatory requirements.

Develops and delivers clinical curricula and training content that meets the current and future needs of nursing and support staff across all care settings.

Maintains a standardized process for assessing, observing, and documenting staff competencies to ensure regulatory compliance and safe patient care.

Continuously researches and integrates innovative and evidence-based approaches to clinical education and training.

Serves as a resource for leaders across MU Health Care in the development and evaluation of instructional materials, presentations, policies, and teaching strategies.

Leads, supervises, and coaches the clinical education team to support professional development, accountability, and a positive work environment.

Leads a culture of safety through proactive risk mitigation and continuous quality improvement, taking measures to routinely evaluate regulatory readiness. Monitors and analyzes safety and performance metrics to identify trends and implement corrective actions for staff and/or patients as appropriate.

Manages the development, coordination, and maintenance of daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of coverage and continuity of care.

Monitors and oversees time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely approval for payroll purposes.

May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of unit workflows, policies, and procedures to manage daily operations, maintain standards, and support quality improvement.

Applies leadership and interpersonal skills to supervise staff, foster collaboration, and drive accountability and service excellence.

Uses foundational budgeting and compliance skills to manage resources, support survey readiness, and ensure regulatory adherence.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision is received from the Director, Learning with a dotted line reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervision is exercised over nurses and support staff in the Center for Education and Development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When the primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under the new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

Five (5) years of RN experience in a hospital setting.

Two (2) years of education experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
