The Physician Advisor, Clinical Decision Support provides physician expertise on an ad hoc basis to review, evaluate, update, and enhance Clinical Decision Support (CDS) logic within the electronic health record (EHR) platform.
Applies deep institutional knowledge and subject matter expertise to ensure that existing CDS tools function as designed and continue to reflect current evidence-based standards of care.
Collaborates with clinical, informatics, and information technology stakeholders to maintain integrity, improve performance, and support optimization of complex CDS tools that directly impact patient care, provider workflow, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance.
Reviews and evaluates existing Clinical Decision Support logic developed within the Oracle Health EHR to ensure accuracy, functionality, and alignment with current clinical standards.
Analyzes complex clinical algorithms and rule structures to validate original intent, logic pathways, and expected outcomes.
Updates and refines CDS programming logic to improve usability, performance, and clinical effectiveness while preserving evidence-based integrity.
Collaborates with clinical informatics, IT analysts, and operational leaders to translate clinical requirements into structured EHR logic and executable specifications.
Provides expert consultation regarding best practices in CDS design, alert optimization, workflow integration, and reduction of alert fatigue.
Assesses regulatory, accreditation, and quality reporting implications of CDS
logic changes and recommends modifications to maintain compliance.
Documents logic revisions, rationale, and decision-making processes to ensure continuity, transparency, and audit readiness.
Participates in testing, validation, and post-implementation evaluation of
revised CDS tools to confirm performance and expected clinical outcomes.
Advises leadership regarding strategic enhancements to CDS infrastructure and opportunities for innovation within the EHR environment.
May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
Advanced knowledge of clinical medicine, evidence-based practice, and healthcare quality standards.
Deep understanding of Clinical Decision Support architecture, rule logic, and electronic health record system design.
Supervision is received from the Chief Medical Informatics Officer.

Medical degree from an accredited medical school, current licensure as a physician, board certification in an area of specialty, and current malpractice coverage.
Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a physician in the state of Missouri.
Five (5) years of progressive clinical leadership experience, including responsibility for Clinical Decision Support development, oversight, or governance.
Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing Clinical Decision Support tools within an electronic health record system.
Privileges must be approved by the Governing Body before beginning work in this role. Approved, current privileges from the Governing Body must be maintained at all times as a condition of employment in this role. Employee must designate a primary supervising physician with the Medical Staff Office at the time of submitting an application for privileges.
