Nature of Work

Manage the installation and maintenance for the University's inside and outside plant pathway and cabling infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities(to be completed by department)

  • Oversee the installation and repair of all University-owned communications cabling infrastructure. Installations include all in-building and underground plant distribution systems comprised of copper, coaxial and fiber optic facilities.

  • Provide engineering expertise for outside plant services and obtain assistance from outside engineering experts when necessary. Make recommendations and present proposals/estimates for infrastructure improvements or expansion. Provide Campus Facilities with in-building wiring designs and estimates for campus projects.

  • Manage contracts for outside plant services by maintaining current status and re-bidding as needed. Provide assistance to departmental staff in resolving outside plant issues.

  • Manage all duties related to maintaining reliable operations of critical Telecom owned/operated systems to include equipment room HVAC, fire suppression, physical security of facilities and maintaining the operations of the division's emergency generators.

Supervision Received

Supervision is received from the Manager of Telecommunications - Technical Services or from supervising departmental designee.

Supervision Exercised

Functional supervision is exercised over Telecommunications Supervisor and OSP contractors.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in telecommunications. A minimum of five years' experience in outside plant construction, engineering, management, project management or closely related field is necessary. Obtain and maintain RCDD certification.
