Nature of Work

Maintain and support a variety of infrastructure equipment, applications and devices and ensure the successful delivery of video communications solutions used statewide by numerous constituents.

Key Responsibilities(to be completed by department)

  • Install and maintain vendor-supplied equipment and applications; ensure compatibility, efficiency, security and performance.

  • Troubleshoot equipment/application problems and failures. Determine and initiate appropriate and immediate actions needed to restore normal services with minimal down time. Document occurrence and actions taken. Assess operating procedures followed in resolving issue for effectiveness; may recommend modifications to standard procedures found to be inadequate, unclear or ineffective.

  • Research and resolve problems identified by constituents. Document findings and communicate to all responsible parties.

  • Test, evaluate, and install new versions or authorized modifications to existing solutions; work with vendor(s) as needed to correct, provide feedback and request improvements.

  • Advise applications development and support staff on design issues that optimize end user services and operating environment efficiencies.

Supervision Received

Expected to perform under limited supervision. Most normal duties and responsibilities are handled independently with the use of established procedures and policies. Difficult or unique situations are referred to the supervisor.

Supervision Exercised

Depending on the individual work assignment and personal skills, leadership may be exercised over temporary or student staff, support staff assigned to a project or general guidance provided a project team.

Minimum Qualifications

In appraising the relative qualifications of candidates for all levels, consideration will be given to the extent and type of experience with various information technology functions and to the extent and type of pertinent education and formal training. At the time a job opening is posted, the hiring department will specify required knowledge and skills pertaining to specific technologies / software / equipment.

  • Working knowledge of or proven capability to quickly learn video and related technologies, solutions to be utilized/supported within the hiring unit.

  • Knowledge of networking and various configurations that may impact video communications.

  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently to resolve technical issues in order to ensure video events can continue, based on constituent's local policies/guidelines.

  • Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of systems and applications.

  • Knowledge of computer security procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to research, quickly identify and correct problems (debug) using system utilities / diagnostics.

  • Familiarity with systems analysis procedures and techniques.

  • Evening, weekend and call-in work may be required to meet deadlines and correct system failures.
