To deliver selected aspects of health care to stroke patients who need consultation, research, and/or direct patient care requiring technical and focused advanced skills and knowledge.
Collaborates with other health professionals in the provision of patient care while maintaining standards of care utilizing the
ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses as the foundation for nursing practice and meeting the standards for regulatory requirements for state and federal agencies.
Meets with the multidisciplinary team on a daily basis. Participates in inpatient stroke rounds and facilitates
communication between the patients, family, multidisciplinary team and the stroke medical staff.
Participates in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care for stroke patients. Provides direct patient care as required.
Reviews stroke inpatient cases for fulfillment of CMS and CSC measures.
Completes stroke patient education for those patients not housed on designated stroke units
Responds to code stroke activations in Emergency Department, inpatient units, and to direct admission patients.
Completes and documents follow up activities with stroke patients. Coordinates mailing of the stroke patient follow-up
survey to all patients discharged to home. Performs the 90 day modified Rankin scale by phone or per clinic notes on all patients receiving IV thrombolytics and/or endovascular intervention. Enters the 90 day modified Rankin scores into "Get With the Guidelines" stroke registry.
Assists with various educational and outreach events as needed.
Promote and achieve satisfaction of external and internal customers. Effectively intercede with families and patients and resolve concerns related to the delivery of health care services.
May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.
Direction is received from a designated supervisor.
Functional supervision may be exercised over nurses and nursing support staff.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. Two (2) years of RN experience in area of specialization. Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.
Experience in the care of stroke patients is strongly preferred. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
