Provides functional practical nursing care under the direction of a registered professional nurse for patients in an acute care environment, including placement and assistance with IVs, IV site dressing changes, insertion, removal. Also may include specific functions related to wound care and in partnership with specialty wound nurses to support patient care in assigned area.
Assess patient condition and nursing needs, set goals, and complete appropriate nursing actions to meet identified goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient.
Demonstrate the ability to evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes. Work collaboratively with health care team in achieving these goals.
Assess, intervene, and reassess the patient's self-report of symptoms and pain promptly. Utilize appropriate methods/tools for assessment and reassessment. Demonstrate an understanding of medications with regards to action and side effects. Report pertinent information to appropriate leader or health care team member. Educate patients and family about their health care needs, medications, plan of care, discharge plan and follow-up care.
May complete unit/department specific duties within scope of practice as outlined in department documents.

General supervision is received from the assigned unit supervisor, manager, or director. Direction is provided by a registered professional nurse as assigned by the unit supervisor, manager, or director.

Missouri Board of Nursing LPN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state LPN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state LPNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
