The Nurse Specialty Supervisor, Operating Room, CRMC is responsible for optimizing available resources while independently collaborating, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of the surgical patient at Capital Region Medical Center. Provides clinical expertise and functional direction to members of specialty surgical teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes in complex specialty cases. Provides quality care to patients and collaborates with the Nurse Supervisor, Operating Room, CRMC, as well as with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the highest patient satisfaction.
Coordinates and manages change initiatives for specialty areas, including instrumentation, sterile processing, equipment, materials management, vendors, and case card systems.
Serves as the clinical liaison and primary contact for specialty service surgeons, coordinating and planning advanced procedures, including specific equipment and instrumentation needs.
Assesses, develops, plans, implements, and evaluates specialty-specific projects, including managing detailed proposals, incorporating evidence-based research, and enhancing patient care outcomes.
Negotiates and collaborates with key stakeholders, including surgeons, administrative leaders, and staff, to support specialty service initiatives.
Facilitates consultation and serves as a resource for staff regarding equipment, procedures, and staffing needs within the specialty area.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of educational practices relevant to surgical services within the specialty.
Educates and instructs staff on specialty-specific concepts, procedures, equipment, and processes using appropriate instructional technologies.
Provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients.
Provides leadership, mentorship, and clinical guidance to assigned, non-RN clinical support team members.
Maintains nursing care standards and ensures adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Plans, directs, and participates in patient, family, community, and professional education. Participates in nursing research, staff meetings, in-service
training, and quality and performance improvement activities.
Performs the responsibilities of an operating room RN.
Develop, coordinate, and maintain daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care.
Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes.
May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
Demonstrates knowledge of unit workflows, policies, and procedures to manage daily operations, maintain standards, and support quality improvement.
Applies leadership and interpersonal skills to supervise non-RN staff, foster collaboration, and drive accountability and service excellence.
Uses foundational budgeting and compliance skills to manage resources, support survey readiness, and ensure regulatory adherence.
Supervision is received from the Nurse Manager, Surgical Services, CRMC.
Supervision is exercised over assigned non-RN operating room staff.
Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Existing staff in this title as of 9/28/25 may substitute an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired.
One (1) year of operating room or surgery RN experience.
Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification by the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI).
Supervisory experience.
Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
