BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The Supervisor, Grounds Facilities will facilitate, lead, and coordinate landscaping efforts and related outdoor maintenance services. Responsible for training staff, ensuring performance quality, and administrative procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Establish a landscape management program, including plans, designs, and execution. Research and analyze information use standard practices, and make recommendations for improvement/efficiency as necessary. Manage regulatory requirements for staff herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizer application. Guide new landscape projects and work with outside contractors to achieve excellent results.

Create operational and safety procedures. Determine equipment and services required for jobs such as care of lawns, shrub maintenance, trees, plant selection, and repair of outdoor features such as irrigation systems, fences, or benches. Ensure that the facilities are maintained safely and attractively at all times.

Train or coordinate the training of new hires, handle service or employee records, create worker schedules, and prioritize services. Work within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines, noting when obstacles may impact outcomes.

Lead snow/ice removal and management during inclement weather events.

Exchange information, ask questions, and check for staff/customer understanding.

Develop working relationships with various internal parties and may work with external parties, as needed.

Develop, coordinate, and maintain daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care.

Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes.

May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of tree and plant diseases, insect infestations, and botany. Excellent customer service skills.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General supervision is received from the Manager, Healthcare Building Operations.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervision is exercised over groundskeeping staff in the Engineering Services Department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Four (4) years of experience in grounds maintenance work.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associates or bachelor's degree. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is very active and may require ambulating, remaining in a stationary position and positioning self to reach and/or move objects above the shoulders and below the knees. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
