The Nurse Clinician, Trauma Education and Outreach Specialist coordinates and delivers trauma-related nursing education and outreach for internal and external audiences. Acts as a clinical resource and educator to enhance trauma care knowledge and performance through formal education, outreach, and simulation-based training. Supports trauma program goals by developing curricula, facilitating continuing education, leading outreach initiatives, and identifying performance gaps through quality processes.
Participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of trauma nursing care and education strategies
Provides direct and consultative care to trauma patients as needed to maintain clinical expertise and support trauma services.
Acts as a clinical education resource for trauma patients, families, staff, and providers within MU Health Care and the regional trauma network.
Leads curriculum development for trauma education, including onboarding and annual continuing education requirements for trauma care team members.
Oversees implementation and evaluation of onboarding programs for new hires including Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) / Pediatric Care After Resuscitation (PCAR).
Facilitates internal trauma education activities such as Trauma Update courses, targeted staff education, mock traumas, and trauma preceptor programs.
Conducts training needs assessments and addresses educational gaps identified through the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) process.
Develops and delivers trauma-specific training programs for nursing, providers, and ancillary staff in collaboration with trauma leadership.
Supports local and regional trauma education initiatives including Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN), and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) outreach and education events.
Partners with continuing education bodies and clinical educators to provide accreditation-ready programming aligned with current trauma standards.
Participates in regional outreach efforts to advance trauma system development and injury prevention through educational offerings.

Participates in administrative responsibilities related to trauma education, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance as required by the American College of Surgeons.
Develops, coordinates, and maintains daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care.
Monitors time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes.
May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
Advanced knowledge of trauma care standards, trauma systems, and nursing education practices.
Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating trauma curricula and continuing education programs.
Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills with ability to facilitate interdisciplinary training.
Ability to design and lead clinical simulations and mock trauma events.
Knowledge of ATLS, TNCC, ATCN, TCAR/PCAR, and trauma nursing competencies.
Proficiency in evaluating educational outcomes and responding to performance improvement data.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage internal and external audiences.
Supervision is received from the Nurse Manager, Trauma Program
Functional supervision may be exercised over nurses and nursing support staff.
Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When the primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under the new
state of residency within thirty (30) days.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
Two (2) years of nursing experience, including trauma, critical care, or emergency nursing.
Experience in clinical education.
Five (5) years of trauma nursing experience.
Certification as TNCC and/or ATCN instructor.
TNCC, ATCN and/or TCAR/PCAR certification.
Experience with program development, trauma performance improvement, or regional outreach.
Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
