New Features and Functionality Available in PeopleSoft 9.2

By Donna Johanning, Director of Financial Information Systems

The PeopleSoft Finance/Supply Chain upgrade project included a review of current business practices that could be improved by using functionality available in the newer version. As a result of this review, several features will be implemented with the upgrade.

• Electronic Workflow – For Accounts Payable, the ability to do an electronic workflow will eliminate a manual paper based process and replace it with a new business process for approvals, similar to what was designed for the Travel and Expenses system. In Supply Chain, the new electronic workflow will replace the Virtual Approver system currently being used where approvals are based on a one to one relationship between requestor and approver. In 9.2, Supply Chain approvals will be based upon funding, not relationships. For new chart field requests, the form will use workflow to route to the person designated as responsible at the Division level and then to the campus accounting office to be created in PeopleSoft.

• Work Centers – Configurable pages that bring together the PeopleSoft elements that users access most for their primary responsibilities. Users will access the work center pages to navigate to their commonly used tasks and minimize the time drilling through menu items.

• Payment Request Form – A simplified non-PO voucher form for end users to complete when requesting payments to vendors. The use of this short form for the majority of our users will greatly simplify voucher entry.

• Mobile Inventory (Hospital) – Mobile Inventory is an application that enables users to perform inventory transactions using mobile handheld devices. This will replace the current At Par technology.

Many other new features and enhancements will also be implemented as part of the upgrade. Information will be available in the coming months during information sessions at your campus, through email updates, and in the upgraded training materials.
