Re-engineering furniture

Two Missouri S&T graduates, who now live in St. Louis, have opened a furniture restoration business. What began as a diversion from their full-time engineering jobs is now a no-two-days-are-alike gig that also pays the bills. Brandt and Nicole Genz graduated with engineering degrees in 2007 and were married in 2008. Though both had challenging jobs in their industry, a do-it-yourself project for their home led them opening Rescued Furniture and Designs.

“We were doing this on the side for fun, and slowly it started becoming that challenge I was looking for,” Nicole Said.

While you may not need an engineering degree to restore furniture, Nicole noted that their training helps make them successful.

“Getting your degree sets you up for so many other things,” she said. “So even if you venture off your path and go into a different field than engineering, you now have that background to carry on with.”
