Title IX Update: November 14, 2014

Title IX Update

November 14, 2014

Greetings,

Our work continues. Below are highlights since my last correspondence:

On-Site Campus Visits

Brett Sokolow and Daniel Swinton, our NCHERM consultants, have begun their on-site campus visits. Initial visits to MU occurred on November 7, UMSL and Missouri S&T on November 12-13. UMKC is planned for early December. The series of visits, scheduled between now and February, are focused on assessment of intervention and prevention activities, including an assessment of needs, identification of gaps, and communication and coordination across the campuses. The last visits, which will occur in the spring, are designated as follow-up visits to assess campus progress on implementation.

Title IX Strategic Investments

The campus priorities for Title IX strategic investments deadline has been extended to February 2, 2015. This extension will allow for the series of on-site campus visits, which are focused on assessing both prevention and intervention practices, to be completed. The adjusted timeline ensures that we have a complete assessment of needs and gaps and can prioritize accordingly.

Outreach and Engagement

On Wednesday, November 5th, 2014, representatives from UM System and MU participated in the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCADSV) kick-off event for the initiative “Missouri Men Say No More.”  This initiative unites men who lead by example to prevent and end violence against girls and women. The University of Missouri System was a sponsor of the event, and President Wolfe spoke about the University’s commitment to demand a campus culture of respect for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Mandated Reporter Training

Training for mandated reporters is being tested in our system for launch next week. This training is designed to inform employees about their duty to report Title IX violations and comprehensively covers reporting of sex and gender discrimination incidents, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, bullying, stalking, and related behaviors. The training will be accessible through myLearn.

Sincerely,

Deborah S. Noble-Triplett, Ph.D.
