Opening - Health Care Attorney

The University of Missouri System, located in Columbia, Missouri, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of health care attorney in the Office of the General Counsel.  This position will be based in the Office of General Counsel in Columbia, Missouri and will report directly to the General Counsel. The health care attorney will work as part of the team of attorneys advising the University’s health care operations and academic enterprise.

The University of Missouri System consists of four academic campuses located in Columbia, Kansas City, Rolla and St. Louis, and the University’s health system (known as MU Health).  MU Health is comprised of hospitals and clinics, a faculty practice plan (University Physicians) and the MU Schools of Medicine, Nursing and Health Professions.  Other health care related programs of the University include Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry and Pharmacy at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Schools of Nursing and Optometry at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

The attorney will be generally responsible for providing day to day advice on a variety of health law issues.  Such matters will specifically include reviewing and drafting managed care agreements, professional service agreements, and supply contracts, , business transactions related to health care facilities, survey, certification, and licensing requirements for health care facilities, professional licensing, controlled substance regulations, credentialing and medical staff matters, reimbursement rules, privacy and security issues, academic accreditation, and other regulatory and compliance requirements.  The attorney will also have other responsibilities as assigned by the General Counsel.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of health care law, especially compliance and regulatory issues; ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and external contacts; demonstrated skills in client service, oral and written communication and time management; proven ability to effectively develop trust, respect and cooperation across all areas of an organization and staff levels.  The ability to practice in other subject matter areas will be helpful. 

Candidate must have a law degree.  At least five years of experience in health care law is preferred.  Admission to Missouri Bar or eligibility for admission by reciprocity is necessary.  Starting salary is negotiable.  The University provides an excellent benefits package.  Please apply online at erecruit.umsystem.edu.
