Leadership Foundations

The Careers and Culture team supports faculty, staff and leaders to foster high performance and fulfilling careers. The Leadership Foundations training program, provided to each new leader at the University of Missouri System, offers guidance on leadership expectations as well as helpful information to assist in day-to-day team management. Leaders are invited to attend three training sessions on HR Basics, Recruitment & Selection, and Finance. These training sessions cover important information to ensure new leaders' success. Additionally, ongoing support, tools and knowledge are provided through quarterly leadership workshops and a monthly leadership communication.

The schedule for the three new leader training courses is listed below. Clicking on a course will take you to the login screen for myLearn. Once you have logged in with your normal University ID and password, you will be able to enroll in the selected course. Locations for each session are noted within the myLearn registration.

Training descriptions

HR Basics: By the end of this session, leaders will have a better understanding about tools that are available to encourage success in leading teams. A few of the topics that will be covered are PeopleSoft HR, Performance Management, and HR Law and Policies.

Recruitment & Selection: After attending this training, leaders will understand the recruitment cycle at the University of Missouri System and best practices for selecting the right person for their team.

Finance: Leaders at UM System need to understand how the finances work. Start off right by attending this session to gain insight on where funding comes from, how to read budget reports, request additional funding, and more.
