The University of Missouri System condemns the attack on the guest speaker at University of Missouri-Kansas City on April 11.  The student who was involved in the attack was immediately arrested and charged by the UMKC police department. Through quick action by UMKC, the student has been suspended and will not be allowed on campus. The student will also be subject to university disciplinary proceedings that could include expulsion.

With more than 100,000 students, faculty, staff and daily visitors, there is a wide spectrum of views and perspectives that are discussed on our campuses. And we will provide opportunities for each individual to share and discuss their views in a civil manner in an environment that is safe and welcoming to everyone, regardless of their views.  And we vehemently denounce violence and attacks against anyone.

This is the bedrock of freedom of expression that we hold dear at our universities.
