Missouri TechLaunch
Commercializing research and launching new high-tech companies in Missouri has been shown to have a lasting and significant economic impact. Missouri-based companies such as Emerson Electric, Monsanto Company, and Leggett & Platt, among others, all started as entrepreneurial start-ups developing then-cutting-edge technologies. For over 100 years, these companies have contributed to the Missouri economy in irreplaceable ways, including creating high-paying jobs throughout the State. The Missouri TechLaunch program is designed to help high-tech entrepreneurs overcome the principal financing challenges of launching new start-ups that leverage discoveries and talent at Missouri’s world-class public and private universities and other research organizations.
Seed Capital Co-Investment Program
MTC’s Seed Capital Co-Investment program (SeedCap) is designed to accelerate private investment in Missouri-based start-up companies and to increase the overall investment impact of that third-party investment. Through this program, MTC will award seed capital funds that match other capital investments. The seed capital may be used by the start-up company for advanced intellectual property development and evaluation, including in-depth analysis of market potential, conducting competitive analysis, advanced proof of concept work for a scientific discovery, advanced prototype design and development, research and development needed to attract venture capital financing, hiring key personnel, and related activities.
Venture Capital Co-Investment Program
MTC’s Venture Capital Co-Investment program (VCCI) is designed to accelerate private venture capital investment in Missouri-based start-up companies and to increase the overall investment impact of that third-party investment. Through this program, MTC will award venture capital funds that match other capital investments. The venture capital may be used by the start-up company for advanced intellectual property development and evaluation, including in-depth analysis of market potential, conducting competitive analysis, advanced proof of concept work for a scientific discovery, advanced prototype design and development, research and development needed to attract additional venture capital or capital markets financing, hiring key personnel, and related activities.
High-Tech Industrial Expansion Program
To promote MTC’s vision of transforming Missouri through the power of entrepreneurship and technology-based innovation, MTC supports industrial expansion efforts in Missouri that result in significant capital investment and high-paying jobs in its targeted biotech and high-tech clusters with an emphasis on those that leverage Missouri’s rich agricultural history. This strategy supports communities throughout the State by adding “strength to Missouri muscle” and accelerates our ability to attract private capital and create innovation hubs that foster entrepreneurship. Through the High-Tech Industrial Expansion (HTIE) program, MTC makes investments that can be used to purchase equipment, facilitate construction, and hire key personnel.
Missouri Building Entrepreneurial Capacity
To create more home-grown, high-tech companies, Missouri must support entrepreneurs and foster innovation. It is for this reason that the Missouri Building Entrepreneurial Capacity program (MOBEC) is a cornerstone of MTC’s investment strategy. Through the MOBEC program, MTC will make strategic investments that expand the support system for entrepreneurs that are commercializing new technologies or that enhance the capacity of Missouri to grow its innovation economy.
Missouri Technology Incentive Program
The Missouri Technology Corporation has instituted the Missouri Technology Incentive Program (MoTIP) to increase the number of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) awards granted to small businesses in the State of Missouri.
