In 1997, the University of Missouri System initiated and supervised the market-demand analysis, business plan and master site plan and covenants for a future research park on Fort Leonard Wood property. The plans were submitted to and approved by the U.S. Army in 2000—the University of Missouri Technology Park at Fort Leonard Wood then became the first technology park to be located on an active Army post. This 62-acre park was developed in conjunction with the Missouri Technology Corporation (MTC) and has become a national model for privatization of support facilities on active Army posts.
